Testimony to Headley Court |
I spent 3 months at Headley Court, not a long time but more than I had expected. Two weeks I was sent there to assess a head injury I received whilst on duty. Although I enjoyed the company of fellow servicepeople I resented the fact that I had to be hospitalised full stop. My family and I had become alienated due to my injury changing my perception towards those who normally would have assisted and cared for me. Although I felt alone in my small isolated world I think I would have greatly benefited from my brother or sister being able to visit me. I had the privilege to be treated at Headley Court over a period of 6 weeks after several ops for a dislocated knee and all the ligament damage that goes with it. The totally professional way in which the rehabilitation is carried out is second to none. I have since had a couple more ops and suffered at the hands of the NHS . Anyone who is getting their rehab needs support and a facility for families is a must Keep up the good work.
That fateful night I received a phone call telling me that my husband had been involved in an anti-tank mine explosion and that I should prepare for the worst. A short while later my husband got the chance to phone me and tell me he was OK and alive but that he couldn’t move from the neck down, and had a small hole to the side of his head.... He started at Headley Court soon after we moved, spending 4 weeks there and 4 weeks at home. He would come on great at Headley Court, but do really well at home because the want to be with his children and play with them pushed him on each and every day, even on the days when he was so sad and fed up with his life. Headley Court has been a great place for him to go to gain strength and be with one of the lads who was with him when he got hurt. He is now able to walk, although distance is limited and he has also lost the use of his left hand and suffers from different spinal syndromes. A lot of his recovery has been as a result of his time at Headley Court. |
